Tepoztlan

Ender's school is good at planning day trips for the students so they can see more of Mexico. We've been able to go on two of those trips. The first trip we went on was to Tepoztlan. It's about an hour outside the city. This was last year and it's just taken me this long to write about it. Tepotzlan is a beautiful city full of small cobble stone streets and gorgeous scenery. There was a lot of shopping to be done.

There is also a hike up to a pyramid that we decided to go on. We thought it would be fun but this hike was no joke. We started out all smiles.
I'm pretty sure I didn't get Jacob wrapped correctly. He usually rides up front not back.
Jacob not getting a nap is what usually messes with these day trips. We were about half way up the trail when he lost it. Poor guy was tired, hot, and seriously over all of it.
How sad is that face!

Ya the hike pretty much went up really slippery and rocky "steps" the whole way. People where constantly slipping and falling. It's not something I would have taken Jacob on if I had known. It got to the point where neither Jacob or I wanted to go on so we found a nice spot on a rock and I held Jacob until he fell asleep. Ender and our friend Julia went on without us. I am so glad we didn't go on since the last part was the worst, as seen in the photo below.
It was so narrow you had to go single file to reach the top which really slowed things down

This is how Ender looked when he reached the top

Ender made it to the top only to be disappointed by the tiny pyramid. The views however were amazing.

Jacob had a whole nap and woke up before Ender made it back to us. It was a pretty boring time for me but Jacob was a much happier guy after that.
Look at how little he was
We finally made it down the mountain and had some amazing local food! I'm so gonna miss the food in Mexico!

See that slightly lighter rock at the top of the mountain, in the middle of the photo? That's the pyramid.  I wish someone would have pointed it out to us before we decided to go up there.  Also I wish they would have said,  "Do you want to climb straight up a mountain with your one year old?"  I would have had a different answer for them. On a side note- How gorgeous is that? The city is right below.
It turns out we were in Tepozlan the weekend they were having a festival, which meant more shopping and way more people. They had a carnival with some pretty shady looking rides. Come ride a spinning thing that's propped up by five bricks to even it out, no thank you! There was a lot to see and we had a fun night shopping and checking out the festivities. It was a great day trip and I'm thankful we got to see a bit more of Mexico.
