While in SLC we were able to visit with my brother and his family for a night. I know, we were there for almost 3 weeks and only stayed a night, that should tell you how busy we were. In the last post I said how much help Scott was with the condo renovation. He was the best. On the night we stayed at there house Scott was helping us with the condo so he took Jacob back with him so Ender and I could stay and work on the condo a bit more and Jacob got to have fun playing in the pool with cousins. That night we stayed up way too late talking, as we always do when we stay at their house. Plus we had tons of yummy Mexican food from La Fuente, an awesome restaurant right off the freeway by Scott and Lauren's. The next day Jen, Jacob's birth mom, came over to hang out one last time before we left. Her mom lives about 5 mins from Scott and Lauren, I know small world. It was a short visit but a lot of fun. It will be nice to spend more time with them on our next visit.


Jacob had a chance to play in the sandbox in the backyard. It was his first time in the sand and he wasn't to sure about it.

This picture cracks me up. Jacob decided to help himself to his cousin's toes and Seth being the sweet, go with the flow guy he is let him.

Think he would have enjoyed it more if we would have been able to stay outside longer, and not being eaten alive by mosquitos. Aw, missing you guys! Can't wait for Christmas time!

2018 Year in Review (and a little of 2017 for context) We’re sorry we haven’t written a proper letter for a couple of years, and it has been even longer since we’ve mailed one, but sometimes life is so good we can’t think of things to brag about. Road to Ghana

There were two things about leaving Cape Town that were hard: 1) Getting back to work after 8 days off is always a bit of an adjustment, and this would be no exception, and 2) We would be leaving the temperate climate of South Africa and making our way back to the equator.  This leg of the trip had plenty of fun things scheduled that made it SUPER FUN:  First, and most certainly least: a lifeboat drill. It wouldn't be ship-life without the monthly drill. We are getting faster! There was also a wedding onboard!  Okay, not really, but a funny little joke spiraled into a full blown ceremony.  You see, one of the things you can sign up for when you are a staff, faculty, or life-long-learner is to host a "ship family."  This means that college students who are looking for "ship parents" can sign up and be matched with older adults to have an occasional "family dinner" and basically have some community outside of their peers if they want.  The "bride,...

Sea Olympics

 A crazy thing happened on the ship between Mozambique and South Africa:  Kim and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary!   We had tentative plans to have "fancy dinner" on the ship, in which you can order an expensive meal in the Four Seasons Restaurant, but as (bad) luck would have it, the restaurant was closed for mid-term exams on our anniversary.  So, we decided to get burgers and fries in the Chappy bar instead.  Another cool thing happening on the ship was the Sea Olympics, which took place the day after our anniversary.  The Sea Olympics are a HUGE ship wide event. Every voyager on the ship is assigned into a sea when they board according to where they are staying on the ship (I think). Each sea has a Residence Director (RD) who leads occasional meetings throughout the voyage.
